Healed by the Sea

Updated: Jun 1

There’s something sacred about standing at the edge of the ocean. The steady rhythm of the waves, the salty breeze, the feeling of sand between your toes—it quiets the mind in a way that feels almost holy. It’s no surprise that water shows up again and again in Scripture as a symbol of cleansing, renewal, and life.

Jesus met people at the water. He calmed storms, walked across the waves, and offered Living Water that would never run dry. Water has always been part of His design for healing—and not just spiritually. Our bodies are made up of about 60% water, a detail that feels like a divine reminder: we were made to stay connected to it.

Spending time by the ocean seems to reach into places we didn’t know needed soothing. The sound of the waves can help regulate our nervous systems. The negative ions in the sea air are known to lift our mood and increase mental clarity. Even floating in saltwater can reduce inflammation and help calm an anxious heart.

And just as important as immersing ourselves in water is hydrating from within. When we don’t drink enough water, everything feels off—our energy, our focus, even our skin. But when we’re well-hydrated, it’s like our whole system works the way it was meant to. That’s not a coincidence. God designed it this way. Water restores.

Whether it’s a walk on the beach, a long bath, or simply sipping a glass of water in prayerful gratitude—these simple acts of connection with water can bring us back to the One who made us. He created the oceans, and He created you. And both are full of beauty, movement, and life.

So if you’re feeling dry—physically, emotionally, or spiritually—maybe what your soul needs is to draw near to the water. Let it remind you that healing doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as letting God meet you where the waves kiss the shore.
