“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”— Psalm 113:3
There’s something undeniably healing about standing in the sunlight. It’s as if God wrote joy into the warmth of the sun. Just a few moments under its rays can shift your entire day. And it’s not just your mood—it’s your biology.
God created the sun to govern the day (Genesis 1:16), and it still governs our health today. Exposure to natural light regulates our circadian rhythm, balancing sleep cycles and energy levels. It signals to our bodies when to rest, when to rise, and even when to heal.
One of the most essential gifts from sunlight is Vitamin D. Often called the “sunshine vitamin,” it’s crucial for bone health, immune function, and even mood regulation. A deficiency in Vitamin D has been linked to anxiety, depression, and fatigue—reminding us how intertwined our bodies are with the natural world God made. If think you might be deficient, you can take a blood test, or just try a good supplement (D plus K is better of absorption).
Morning sunlight—within the first hour of waking—is especially powerful. It helps set your internal clock, boosts serotonin, and prepares your body for a good night’s sleep. Stepping outside, even for 10 minutes, can be a sacred start to your day.
And let’s not forget the spiritual symbolism: Jesus is called the Light of the World (John 8:12). Walking in the sunlight can be a literal reminder that we are walking with Him—letting His light guide us, warm us, and restore us.
Next time the sun’s out, resist the urge to hide from it completely. Step into the warmth. Lift your face to the sky. Thank God for the way He nourishes your body and soul through something as simple and profound as light.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”— John 1:5
