We Were Meant to Move

In the beginning, Adam and Eve weren’t sitting at desks. They walked with God in the garden (Genesis 3:8). Their lives were embodied—rooted in movement, breath, and connection to the earth. And while our world has changed, our design has not. God created our bodies to move.
Movement is not just about fitness—it’s about worship. Romans 12:1 says, “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” That includes how we care for our bodies through motion, rest, and rhythm.
Our joints were made to bend, our lungs to expand, our feet to walk on the ground He made. And yet, many of us feel stuck—physically, emotionally, even spiritually. Sometimes the best way to reconnect with God is to simply move.
That doesn’t have to mean hours at the gym. It can look like:
A walk in your neighborhood while praying out loud.
Dancing barefoot in your kitchen to worship music.
Stretching while breathing in the morning sun.
Gardening, raking, or doing yard work with intention.
Swimming in a lake or ocean and feeling God’s presence in the water.
When we move, we release tension. We invite fresh oxygen into our cells. Our minds clear. Our hearts soften. Even science shows movement helps reduce anxiety and inflammation, improve sleep, and lift our mood. But Scripture shows us something deeper—it’s an invitation back to harmony.
Movement grounds us in our humanity. It reminds us we’re alive, we’re capable, and we’re held. When paired with gratitude or prayer, movement becomes medicine for the soul.
So if you’ve been sitting too long, feeling disconnected or overwhelmed, consider this your gentle nudge: step outside. Breathe deep. Stretch. Walk. Praise.
Let your movement be a reminder that your body is a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19), beautifully made, and designed by a God who is not far off—but present with you in every step.
